Emi's Profile


Born in Suita, Japan in 1977, Emi has been dancing since she was 4 years old.
At the age of 13, she went to Russia to attend the Vaganova Ballet Academy in St. Petersburg, the oldest and most famous ballet school in the world.


At 16, she studied with the Bolshoi Ballet School, graduating in 1996. She then danced with the Moscow Music Theatre Ballet, and in the same year received two prestigious awards; second prize in the All Japan Ballet Competition, and a silver medal in France at the Paris International Ballet Competition (no gold medal was awarded at this event.) In 1997.

Emi was awarded the Special Prize at the Moscow International Ballet Competition. Following this, she joined the Essen Ballet in Germany.

Emi moved to the United States in 1998, studying in Indianapolis with Irina Kolpakova, whose repertoire includes The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty and others.

In 1999, she joined the San Jose Ballet in California, dancing in The Nutcracker and Swan Lake among others. Emi was awarded a bronze medal (no gold medal was awarded) in 2000 at the International Ballet Competition in New York.


Joining the Boston Ballet in 2001,
Emi was invited to dance the leading role in Swan Lake with the Leningrad ballet in Russia.
That performance took place in June of 2002.
The same month, she was awarded the Special Prize (Robert Joffrey Award of Merit) at the International Ballet Competition in Jackson, Mississippi.

In Japan, Emi has appeared on television in the documentary show Jyonetsu TairikuEon MBS (Mainichi Broadcasting System) this past June.

Most recently, in August, Emi was honored with the Defining Beauty award from the Estee Lauder Company.
